Who are
we?
The Palestinian Family Planning and
Protection Association (PFPPA) established in
Jerusalem in 1963, is an independent
non-profit association enjoying a full
membership of the International Planned
Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Its executive
office is based in
Jerusalem and it has six branches and youth
centers scattered throughout the
West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Mainly,
PFPPA provides various services in sexual &
reproductive health where it offers training for
young leaders and staff from other governmental
and non-governmental organizations. Moreover, it
provides, inter alia, unique medical services
in: women health, laboratory tests, counseling,
awareness raising, advocating women rights,
conducting applied research and organizing
lobbying and advocacy campaigns to influence the
national policies.
Vision:
The Palestinian Family Planning and Protection Association envisions a country in which all Women, Men and Young people have equal access to information and quality services related to their sexual and reproductive life, with all necessary legislation to support the nature and precious aspects of all reproductive rights, throughout the life cycle. It envisions also a community where gender mainstreamed; reproductive choices are respected, and free of any kind of discrimination.
Mission
statement:
• The Palestinian Family Planning and Protection Association aims to improve the quality of life for Palestinian people through provision of high quality of SRH services including the underserved areas.
• We aim at improving the knowledge and life skills of all young men and women in SRH; in recognizing their SRH rights and a life free of violence and discrimination.
• We support the right of women to choose the number and time of safe pregnancies as well as a safe abortion for medical reasons.
• We seek the elimination of sexually transmitted infections and to avoid the spread of HIV/ AIDS
• We aim for stakeholders to be advocates for sexual and reproductive health rights, and to strengthen partnership with other organizations.
PFPPA Goals:

All Palestinian young
people are aware of their well being and are
prepared to make informed decisions and choices
regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
2.
Reduction in the
incidence HIV/AIDS in Palestine and the full
protection of the rights of people infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS
3.
All Palestinian women,
men including young people, especially in the
under-served areas have access to a
comprehensive quality sexual and reproductive
health services and are able to practice their
reproductive rights.
4.
Recognition of woman’s
right in Palestine to have access to information
and health education on dangers of unsafe
abortion, and methods of prevention to reduce
its incidence1.
5.
Strong public, political
and financial commitment in Palestine to and
support for sexual and reproductive health and
rights at the national and international level.
Services and activities of PFPPA:
The services and the activities of PFPPA can be subdivided into two categories. First, a daily constant services provided in six branches in the field of family planning and reproductive and sexual health. Second, the association carries out various activities through restricted projects which are financed separately from the core budget. Usually these projects funded by many donors as a result of PFPPA department of Resources Development and Media the efforts in fund raising and proposal writing.
The constant services can be summarized as follows:
Excellence centers and clinics: these are pilot clinics and centers focusing on the comprehensive concept of health in general and on the reproductive health in particular. These centers provide services to families, especially women, with services regarding psychological, physical, social and legal aspects. The clinics provide preventive and treatment services around family planning where women can make enough time between pregnancy periods by using suitable contraceptives such as Intra uterine Devices (IUDs), Injectable contraceptive, pills condoms and others.
Additionally, these clinics provide a lab tests
to the women and men.
PFPPA runs two youth centers in Gaza
and Hebron and these centers aim at helping the
youth aged 15-25 to be familiar with
reproductive and sexual health through carrying
out workshops and training courses inside and
outside of Palestine. The centers also are
concerned with voluntary work which is included
in the activities aiming at training youth to
promote awareness around sexual and reproductive
health.
One the other hand, PFPPA runs two youth centers in Gaza and Hebron. These centers aim to develop the skills and the knowledge of the youth aged (15-25)years in the SRH related topics in order to qualify those young people to raise the awareness among their friends and communities.
PFPPA is also distinguished by three effective programs which are; Advocacy and media program, the fight against AIDS program and reducing abortion program. The advocacy and media program aims at promoting the principles and rights of sexual and reproductive health according to the declaration of International Planned Parenthood Federation and aims at cooperating with decision-makers to sensitize them to the importance SRH rights to the Palestinian society and the importance of forming a new policies to support these rights. Also, the advocacy and media program is aiming at raising the awareness of public from both sexes, religious leaders and community leaders in different topics of SRH related issues by publishing researches, booklets, brochures, posters, up dating the PFPPA website and makes good use of local mass media.
The fight against HIV/AIDS program aims at promoting awareness among the Palestinian community around HIV/Aids and the related preventive methods and aims at reducing the legal, social and political obstacles that make people hypersensitive to AIDS. The program provides preventive methods to avoid the epidemic such as condoms, in addition; to the provided support to infected individuals with HIV/Aids to have access to safe treatment places and counseling.
Reducing the incidence of unsafe abortion program is considered the association’s special program and it aims at guiding women to realize the effects of un-safe abortion and it promotes for using various methods of family planning to reduce the level of unwanted pregnancy. The reduction of un-safe abortion in the Palestinian community can reduce the morbidity rate among women and enhance their health status.
For the inconstant services, these are projects executed in various Palestinian areas while focusing on unprivileged areas and on the concepts of sexual and reproductive health for youth aged 12-25 and for women aged 15-49.
